This is a tool that allows the teacher to record a short, objective description of students’ performance, also noting the context. It helps build a rich portrait of an individual student’s achievement, as it will include observations that have special significance and cannot be obtained by using other classroom assessment strategies. An anecdotal record is an ongoing and holistic assessment tool. It should identify strengths as well as challenges.
